Bristol Rugby Head Coach Mark Tainton is “excited about the quality” of Scot Jack Cosgrove after the loosehead prop agreed to join them from Edinburgh Rugby this summer.
Cosgrove, 22, has been with Edinburgh for the last couple of seasons and in recent times was starting in the number one jersey with Alasdair Diickinson, Allan Dell and Rory Sutherland unavailable.
However, Edinburgh’s injury curse hit him too before the Ospreys match earlier this month and it is unsure if he will appear for the club again before the former under-20 cap moves south.
On Thursday, Tongan international tighthead prop Sione Faletau and Cosgrove’s signings were announced by English top flight club Bristol.
“We’re pleased to be able to bring two really talented props into our environment next season,” Tainton said.
“Sione is a powerful front-rower who has made a significant impact with Yorkshire Carnegie this season. The Championship has some excellent players and, at 28-years-old, Sione is in the prime of his career.
“Jack is a young loosehead who has cut his teeth in the PRO12 and we’re excited about his quality. He’s keen to take on a new challenge and we’re looking forward to seeing him compete for a starting place.
“Both players were impressed that there’s a clear understanding about what we want to achieve and they’re eager to be a part of that.”
Edinburgh confirmed the news, saying in a statement: “Edinburgh Rugby can confirm loosehead prop Jack Cosgrove will leave the club at the end of the season to join Bristol Rugby.
The Scotland age-grade internationalist joined the club from Worcester Warriors ahead of the 2015/16 season and has since made 10 appearances in the black and red.”
