Edinburgh University prop Katie Dougan has been handed a first start for Scotland Women in Friday’s match against Italy Women at Broadwood Stadium (kick-off 6.20pm, live on Scottish Rugby TV).
The 22-year-old tighthead made her debut off the bench against the same opponents in 2015 and has since appeared a further seven times later in games.
Dougan took up rugby at minis level then stopped playing as there was no girls’ team to progress to.
The Lochaber HS former pupil progressed to university in 2013 and took up the sport again.
She made her Scotland under-20 debut against the RAF in February 2015 and has gone on from there.
No.8 Jade Konkel returns to the starting line-up from injury which saw her miss the England encounter last weekend.
Dougan and Konkel replace Lindsey Smith and Sarah Bonar respectively.
And if Heather Lockhart, a front-rower, comes off the bench she will set a record of 59 appearances in the Six Nations.
The Scots are seeking their second win in the 6 Nations this year following their 15-14 victory against Wales, while Italy are yet to win a match.
Head Coach Shade Munro said: “We are aiming to end this year’s Six Nations campaign on a positive note with a strong performance against Italy.
“It’s been pleasing to see the squad improve in many aspects, but there is more work to be done to reach our full potential.
“We need a consistent and solid performance at Broadwood as Italy are a very good side and have been improving with every game in the tournament.
“Support from the stands will make a difference and give the players an edge so it would be great to see a big crowd on Friday night.”
