Dollar Academy pupil Euan McLaren has been named Scotland under-18 skipper as they prepare to face England under-18 at Preston Grasshoppers RFC this Sunday (kick-off 2pm).
McLaren, a tighthead prop, played for the under-18s last year too and is joined in the 23-man squad by school team mates Gus Warr, Callum Cruikshank and Grant Hughes.
Stewart’s Melville College also have four players involved in the shape of Jack Blain, Jacob Lineen, Ross Thompson and Connor Boyle.
Merchiston Castle, North Berwick High School and Strathallan School all have two players apiece in the party while nine other schools/clubs are represented.
The fixture will serve as a warm-up for the upcoming under-18 International Series which begins in April and will also feature Ireland, Wales, Italy and Canada.
Scotland under-18 Head Coach Ally Donaldson said: “The fixture against England is a great opportunity for players to show where they are ahead of the International Series next month.
The boys have prepared well since coming together in December and we have continued to develop all players in the wider squad. There has been a focus on improving core skills and decision making at training and during internal matches involving both domestic and Exile players.
“We are excited to take on a talented English outfit and look forward to what will be a great learning experience for our players.”
