Watsonians Ladies secured the BT Women’s National League Division One title and promotion to the top flight at the weekend.

In the process they finished the second tier undefeated and are still in the Sarah Beaney Cup.

On Saturday they saw off Greenock Wanderers 58-10 on the back pitches at BT Murrayfield.

Their Head Coach Tristan Gray said:  “This is a win that has been a long time coming. Three years since joining National One and the team has been rebuilding and moving from success to success.

“Fifty new players have been down to training sessions, five coaches working with the team and and experienced players leading the way.

“Ever since the Plate final last year we’ve known that promotion could have been on the cards this year, but to do so undefeated shows the potential this phenomenal group of players have.

“I’m incredibly excited to see what they have up their sleeves for a barnstorming re-entry to the Premier League next season.

“The celebrations at Myreside after the match on Saturday were well deserved and we are full of determination to make an impact in the Sarah Beaney Cup now, facing Edinburgh University later this month in the quarter-finals in what should be a great match.”
